Required reading

The Dispatch just put out an article that says Steve Stivers flip flopped on stem cell research. If you didn't already think he was shady, now he's playing politics with peoples' lives. I like that the article called Mary Jo Kilroy's support for stem cell research "unflinching." THAT'S what I'm looking for.

Kilroy, a Columbus Democrat, has been unflinching in her support of medical research involving embryonic stem cells. Stivers, a Republican, also has said he favors stem-cell research but, as a state senator, he voted against allowing state bond funds to be spent on that purpose. Stivers explained his vote as a procedural tactic to allow an economic-development package to proceed through the legislative process. A troubling thought

Do you know why Republican congressional candidate, Steve Stivers, a former bank lobbyist, was so upset about the banking reform bill?  It stops banks from raising your interest rates on credit cards whenever they damn well please.  Stivers, the best friend bankers ever had in politics, continues to pull in political contributions from nearly every banking PAC, bank executive, and finance companies in the country.  Bankers want and need Stivers to be their defender against regulations.

I find it very troubling that Steve Stivers has refused to sign a pledge to protect Social Security.

Tick Tick Tick

(Repost from http://www.buckeyestateblog.com/good_questions_that_will_never_be_answered)

Small business owner Chuck Hootman:

"As a small business owner, I believe that Ohioans deserve some answers. Congressman Kasich, while Ted Strickland has been fighting for Ohio, what businesses did your running mate counsel to leave the state?  And just how many jobs did your running mate's 'counsel' cost Ohio?"

I’d say about five more minutes until the standard Kasich response of completely ducking the issue and just calling Ted Strickland names.

Four minutes...

Fail

http://stubbornliberal.blogspot.com/2010/07/not-for-regular-average-people.html:
Here is an interesting video on Republican Steve Stivers, former bank lobbyist and current Republican congressional candidate."

Awesome. Because just what we need is another lobbyist out in DC to make things harder for those of us who, you know, aren't part of the richest 1% of America.

Explains a lot

Buster: Mom is becoming a little controlling.
Michael: What tipped you off? When she locked you out on the balcony again?
Buster: That was half my fault. I thought I saw a Graham Cracker out there.
Michael: You baited the balcony?
Lucille Bluth: Prove it.
Time after time, we Democrats are baited into saying something stupid or taking a lame position. We fall for it every time.

I'll be glad when this election year is over and we can stop campaigning 24/7 and start legislating again.
